Basic instructions

Photopuncture™ is usually performed by applying red light directly to the skin above any area of pain or selected acupoints. Hold the torch to the point for 15–30 seconds per point. When activating energy points, we recommend starting with no more than once a day; 3 times a week is usually a good place to start for keeping the body’s energy flowing.

The Photopuncture Torches are also excellent for helping to lower pain and increase circulation in any area of the body that is in need of care. When treating pain in an area, apply the torch directly over the area of greatest pain, then gradually shift it a few inches at a time, every 30 seconds or so.

For the output of each torch and mode, and how long each takes to deliver a dose, see Power output and dosing.

Prevent damage

When you are not using your torch, store it in the hard-shell case or the neoprene belt bag. This prevents scratches on the bulb and a build-up of dust or grime.

Cleaning the bulb

To clean the lens of the torch bulb, use an alcohol wipe or a cotton swab soaked in alcohol to clean and disinfect the area. You can do this as often as needed without damaging the bulb.

Best practice: if you are working in or around an open wound or a messy area, cover the torch with clear plastic film while working with that client, then throw the film away.

Cleaning the torch

The Photopuncture Torch is water-resistant, but not waterproof. Do not immerse it in liquid. Clean it with a damp cloth or an alcohol wipe, then let it dry thoroughly.

Installing the battery

Unscrew the rear (switch end) of the torch and insert the battery positive (+) end first: that is the end with the black ring around five points. The flat, negative end faces the on/off button.

The torch will not work if the battery is in backwards.

Charging and recharging batteries

For the best results, use the batteries supplied with your torch.

Make sure the battery is fully charged. We suggest using the 1A setting on the charger included in your kit, and following the instructions that came with the charger. To prevent down-time, keep a second battery charged and ready.

A fully charged battery typically gives at least 3 hours of continuous use in High mode. There is no need to let a battery drain all the way before recharging it.

Using with essential oils

Using the red light from your torch to help the body quickly absorb and respond to essential oils is a great idea. However, these oils can be quite caustic and can damage the bulb. When using the torch with essential oils, either hold it away from the skin or cover it with plastic film.
